Support 2026 Measure LCF

As a three-term member of the La Cañada Unified School District Board of Education since 2013, I have had the privilege of seeing firsthand the progress our community has made in maintaining and improving our local schools. I urge you to support Measure LCF so we can continue the important work already underway.

By many measures, LCUSD is ranked the #1 school district in the state. However, many of our schools were built over 60 years ago and are showing their age. Deteriorating roofs, plumbing, sewer, heating, and ventilation systems remain ongoing challenges. Some campuses still contain outdated materials such as asbestos and lead pipes and require upgrades to meet current earthquake safety standards. Just last year, we experienced 20 roof leaks, while aging infrastructure and electrical systems struggle to support modern classroom technology.

While some LCUSD schools have been upgraded, others have not. From the beginning, it was understood that the initial Measure LCF funding alone would not be enough to address all of the needs identified in the 2017 Facilities Master Plan. Still, the improvements we have completed demonstrate what thoughtful, locally controlled investment can accomplish. Now, we must take the next step to ensure every student benefits from safe, modern, and fully equipped learning environments.

All funds from the initial Measure LCF have been expended or committed, and the district is actively working to identify funding for the next phase of improvements to bring all schools up to a similar standard. Because the State of California does not provide dedicated funding for school facility upgrades, we must rely on local solutions to continue this progress.

Supporting advanced education is also essential. While some facilities have been modernized, others still reflect a different era. Upgrades to classrooms, labs, and career technical spaces are necessary to support high-quality instruction in science, math, engineering, and technology and to prepare students for college and future careers.

To address these needs, the LCUSD Board of Education has voted to place Measure LCF on the June 2026 ballot. If approved by at least 55% of voters, it would provide approximately $113 million in locally controlled funding and help secure an additional $50 million in state matching funds that could otherwise go to other districts.

Equally important are the strong safeguards built into the measure. An independent oversight committee and regular audits would ensure funds are spent as approved by voters. All funds would remain locally controlled and could not be taken by the state or federal governments. And by law, funds can only be used for facility improvements—not for salaries or pensions.

This is about continuing the progress we have already made and ensuring that every LCUSD student has access to safe, modern, and high-quality learning environments. I encourage our community to support Measure LCF and help us build on the strong foundation we have created together.
